FAQ: Do I get my photos?

This is something that was important to me when I was choosing my wedding photographer, so I know it will be important to my brides and grooms. What happens after the wedding? Where do my photos go? How will I get access to them in 20 years when my kids want to look at all the images?

It’s a common questions, and definitely something to consider when you hire a photographer for any reason….

Do I get my photos?

The short answer is YES

The long answer is:

All of my wedding packages, as well as my portrait sessions, include a disc of images.

Some photographers may give you the option of purchasing the disc of images, but I have it built into the cost of services already. Every photographer has their own point-of-view when it comes to giving clients access to the negatives/digital high-res files. You’ll want to discuss this with each photographer.

But my philosophy is …. This is YOUR life. These images are of your family members, your children, your wedding – and you deserve to archive them however you see fit. The photographer legally retains copyright to the images created, but ACCESS to those images is something you should have without a problem.

I know that most of my couples are DIYers. I know that a lot of you are crafty and will want to have the images at your finger tips for future scrapbooking, photo projects, etc. I’ve seen custom thank-you cards done, collages, as well as Christmas cards 9 months after the fact.

After your wedding (or portrait session) – you receive a link to your images online. A password-protected gallery has been created for you to share with family and friends. This makes it really easy to purchase prints to be shipped directly to you, or for your friends and family to purchase prints (so you don’t have to worry about taking their orders).

You will ALSO receive a disc of images. Included on the disc will be a folder of the all high-resolution, edited and enhanced images, as well as a folder of low-resolution, web-ready images (for your blog, Facebook, etc). The images in your gallery and the images on the disc will be the same. No part of your images will be held hostage for extra money – there’s no reason you can’t just take the disc and print images off your printer if you want to.

I really want your wedding memories to be something that you treasure …. and having the disc of images and access to your photos at any time is a big part of that.

Paso Robles Vineyard wedding : Album Design : Keith and Shannon

So many couples spend thousands of dollars on their wedding photographer…. and then just let their images sit on a disc for years and years

Ahem. I am absolutely guilty of this.

Which is why I was so glad that Keith and Shannon chose a wedding package that included a big, fat, 30 page, 12×12 inch, leather-bound wedding album.

The wedding day holds such an important part of each couple’s story … and the wedding album is such a lovely way to record that story.

When my couples get a wedding album, my goal is to put together a pre-design for them with the images I have selected to best tell the story of their love, of their family and of their full wedding day. After the pre-design, couples have a solid jumping-off point to tweak and shift and adjust the album to include their own favorite photos and moments.

Below are just a few images and layouts from Keith and Shannon‘s wedding album, recently delivered to them.

Thick pages like this really help protect the album from accidental creases or wrinkles caused by little hands that will undoubtedly want to pour over the album again and again.

While the center fold of the album IS visible, it in no way distracts from the full-page designs that take up more than one side.

If there are particular images that you just LOVE, we can print all the way to the edge of the page for the most dramatic effect.

I’m quite proud of this album, and I know Keith and Shannon are too …

12×12 leather-bound wedding album – Matt and Abriel

Check out these images of one of Teegan Photography’s sample albums – leather-bound, flush-mount, 12×12 coffee table album.

This sucker is BIG. If you get a chance to see it in person, you’ll feel the weight and really see how well made and heirloom-quality this album is. (sidenote: This is the largest album available. And it’s huge)

While this album is 12×12 and bound in black, there are A LOT of other options. Sizes from about 4×5 to 11×14. Colors and fabrics from pink and ‘brushed champagne’ to navy and brown … I love all the ideas that I get just from thinking about these options!

When you order an album, shortly after your wedding or event, I will pre-design the album, then submitted to the bride and groom for review, changes and approval.

I’m also working on an example to use as a guest book (white space and few photos, so your guests can sign messages to you around your engagement images).

Changes Coming

Hurrah!

Over the last month or so I’ve been diligently brainstorming and emailing with a dear friend of mine – Ryan Barton of Rhyno Marketing.. …

The next step is a totally re-vamped website … I can’t wait. Be on the lookout.

miscellaneous housekeeping – prints

So, after about 6 months and several photo sessions/events it looks like I will be changing my proofing method.

Rather than hosting the image galleries myself and fulfilling the print orders myself, I will be basically ‘outsourcing’ that part of my business to SmugMug. I have used SmugMug in the past and have had only good experiences with them.

This is only good news for you!

I am really good at shooting weddings.
I am not good at running errands like taking packages to the post office.

Using SmugMug allows me to basically have a dedicated team focused on fulfilling your print orders to the best possible quality. Without actually having to have a team working out of my office.

In addition to making prints available, SmugMug also allows me to offer the high-resolution images for download as well as a wealth of other photo products. I’m still looking at what else would be appropriate to offer (thank you cards vs. a photo apron), so let me know if you have ideas or requests.

You may view my online gallery here – http://teegan.smugmug.com – where I will have 2 galleries (portrait and wedding) available as samples. Future galleries will still be password protected unless otherwise agreed upon ahead of time.

I love being a photographer.

I love taking the photos, I love editing and improving the photos, I love pouring over the photos later.

But I don’t really take the time and money to print/hang photos. Most of that is because Andrew used to be a custom framer and probably wouldn’t let me buy a frame off the shelf …

Nevertheless, walking into a room that has all my images framed and hung is a very surreal experience. The first time it happened was probably one of the coolest things …

I LOVE the aesthetic quality of all of these images in the same style. Nice that they’re mine, but the fact that they are all consistent is just so lovely to me …
